Final of the 4th Edition of the Traditional Food Competition “Tastes Like Murcia”
On September 21st and 22nd, 2024, the grand final of the 4th edition of the “Tastes Like Murcia” Traditional Food Competition took place in Plaza de la Paja, in the heart of Murcia.
This year, participants competed to create their best version of cod meatballs—a dish that may not be the most common in local kitchens, but was chosen by the organizers for its rich cultural roots. The ingredients were provided by local Murcian producers who proudly sponsored the event, and—as always—Nicola’s Fried Tomato was a key part of many of the recipes.
The final was attended by several local officials, including José Guillén, Councillor for Urban Development and Smart City; Sofía López-Briones, Councillor for Youth Talent and Public Spaces; and Luis Alberto Marín, Minister of Economy and Finance. Along with members of the organizing committee, they had the honor of presenting the awards to the winners of this exciting fourth edition.
From all of us at Conservas Nicola, we want to send our warmest congratulations to the winners—Carmen Cánovas López took home the first prize for her exquisite cod meatballs!
This year’s jury featured some of the most recognized names in Murcia’s culinary scene, led by María Egea Fructuoso, honorary patron of the 4th edition and owner of the restaurant Frases. She was joined by: Juan Guillamón, Michelin-starred chef and owner of Almo de Juan Guillamón; Conchi Marín, owner of Rincón Huertano; Juan Antonio García Gil, president of JECOMUR and chef at El Churra; Nuria Hernández Lax, owner of Emboka; Pablo Martínez López, president of EUROTOQUES in the Region of Murcia; María Dolores Barón Baijón, cooking workshop expert; Adrián Tornel Manzanares, owner of El Buen Bocao and Los Arcos de la Cruz.
